In March of this year Ian Munsick sat down to talk to People magazine. Munsick is from Wyoming and has recently released his debut album Coyote Cry that is a different sound from other new artists. He told the magazine “Nobody else can be more you than you. That’s just always rung true to me. Be who you are and be the best version of you because that’s going to give you longevity. I keep it real and I bring life to the experiences I have had both in Wyoming and in Tennessee in my music.”
Munsick grew up with two brothers on a ranch in the Rocky Mountains and they played in a family band called The Munsick Boys. At 18, he moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University.
He is now signed with a major record label, Warner Music Nashville; and has a growing group of fans. But he tells People that has not happened without challenges. He has dealt with a speech impediment but it disappears when he sings. He hopes he can inspire others who stutter or who have other disabilities to follow their dreams.
In 2017 he released a self-titled EP and won Rocky Mountain Song Of The Year for “Horses Are Faster” and he became the only artist who simultaneously qualified two tracks as finalists in the NSAI/CMT songwriting compettion.
His first single from his debut album that was released in September is “Long Haul”. He recently released a stripped down version of the song as well.
He will be stopping in Kearney to perform on April 15th at Joe’s Honky Tonk in Downtown Kearney. Link up for more on joeshonkytonk.com
I am looking forward to seeing him perform live. When I first listened to him sing the first thing I noticed was his unique voice. For the first time in a long time I couldn’t immediately say he sounded like someone else we were already playing.
His songwriting and his unique voice have me hooked. His whole album is a great listen and great lesson in story telling.
