KGFW Sports – White Wins, Huskers Swept, Storm Fall and High School Update

By Mark Reid May 3, 2021 | 9:09 AM

True freshman Husker QB Heinrich Haarberg’s 25-yard TD pass to Wyatt Liewer, with no time on the clock, lifted the White Team to a 21-20 win in Saturday’s Red/White Spring Game. Trailing 20-14 with 1:06 remaining, the White squad drove 80 yards in eight plays for the go-ahead score. Facing a 4th-and-11 from their own 35, with just seconds remaining, Haarberg hit Liewer on a 40-yard pass to the Red 25. While the clock read zeroes, head coach Scott Frost had the teams run one more play. Haarberg then found Liewer for the touchdown and Tyler Crawford’s extra point gave the White team the one-point victory. Nebraska will open the season Aug. 28th at Illinois.

In other Husker football related news:

Coach Frost said sixth-year senior inside linebacker Will Honas suffered a knee injury during the final week of spring practice. While Frost didn’t want to speculate on the severity, he made it seem like Honas was in jeopardy of missing the start of the 2021 season.

Three others have signed free agent deals; Dicaprio Bootle signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, Dedrick Mills with the Detroit Lions and Jack Stoll with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rutgers completed a three-game sweep of the Nebraska baseball team with a 6-0 win yesterday at Hawks Field. This was the first time the Huskers have been swept at home since joining the Big Ten. The Huskers travel to Piscataway, New Jersey this weekend for a pair of games against both Indiana and Rutgers.

The Nebraska softball team completed a four-game sweep of Maryland with an 8-0 five-inning victory in the series finale yesterday at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers travels to Iowa for a four-game series this weekend.
