GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KGFW) – Kearney High School was placed in Lockout Tuesday as authorities searched for a 19-year-old who, on Monday, tried to enter the school through secure doors and make unauthorized contact with a student.

The Kearney Police Department said it had received information from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office that Tyler Caudill had taken a family vehicle and a rifle and that his whereabouts were unknown.

NTV News reports the Phillips man was taken into custody following a standoff at the Central Nebraska Airport in Grand Island. GIPD said pilots found Caudill unconscious inside of a small plane. They removed the gun and left him.

KSNB Local 4 News reports Caudill was attempting to manipulate the plane’s cockpit equipment and refused commands from arriving officers. He eventually exited the plane with his hands up after chemical irritants were deployed.

GIPD said Caudill was also involved in a disturbance at a National Guard Facility.
