It all started with karaoke. That was the testing ground for Tim Zach, from Glidden, Wisconsin when he moved to Nebraska to see if he really wanted to pursue the music dream.
After much encouragement he helped form the band Whiskey Bent. They started practicing in an empty bar, thinking they would do a few gigs for fun. Soon, Tim decided to enter the Colgate Country Showdown. He won the contest in the state of Nebraska and made it to the regional finals in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The band then decided to do their first public performance, so they rented a bar in St. Libory Nebraska and paid to play. That soon changed, as the band’s popularity began to grow and over the course of the past 11 years they have played close to 1,000 shows. Entertaining from 20 to 15,000 people, they have played various venues, events, and festivals. Some of the most memorable include opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Viaero Center in Kearney and opening for Jake Owen on the big stage at Nebraskaland Days in North Platte. But still, Zach said “every show was special”.
In 2014 Tim traveled to Nashville to record his first solo projects including “Like Him” and “Dirt Roads”
Also in 2014 Whiskey Bent released their first album “That’s How We Roll” and in 2017 they recorded “Blue Collar America”. From those we heard radio singles like On The River, Gettin By, Fireflies, Folks Round Here, and Sam’s Song.
Earlier this year some of the original members of Whiskey Bent decided they wanted to cut back on the number of shows they were doing as well as try playing some different music. That is when Tim Zach decided to go solo.
Tim traveled to Nashville in July to record with Stokes Nielson from the Lost Trailers. Stokes produced his project and runs Channel Greatness. He works with artists all over the globe. Tim Zach recorded six new songs on this trip. He wrote two of them, “This Is My Life” about Tim’s family and what is really important in life, and Stompin’ Grounds that he co-wrote with Dylan Bloom; Luke Mills; and Stokes Nielson .Other notable songwriters on this project include David Lee Murphy and Preston from LoCash.
Other artists, Luke Mills and Dylan Bloom traveled to support Tim Zach on his new career path. While at the studio he decided to add them both to a track. He plans to keep releasing new singles every month or two so keep an ear out for it.
When discussing the work in Nashville Zach said he is “excited about new music. It is some of the best stuff I’ve ever done. Something for everyone, heartfelt songs, party songs, and down home mid-west country.”
His first release from this collection is “Get Your Country On”. Recently Stokes traveled from Nashville to produce and shoot a music video in the Kearney area. It includes scenes of him performing live at Joe’s Honkytonk in Kearney with his new band Joe Parr, Matty Sanders, and Bobby Wilson. There is also a cameo appearance by Cornhusker Country Artists DJ Bridwell, Luke Mills, and Dylan Bloom.
