This year not only do we have a lot of great new Holiday songs to listen to but we have whole albums to sit back and enjoy. I have compiled a list of some of my favorite new albums this Christmas.
CODY JOHNSON – A CODY JOHNSON CHRISTMAS
During the COVID-19 shutdown he was very busy. He worked on aa double album, a documentary, and recorded a Christmas album. It includes two new original songs written by songwriter and producer Trent Willmon. You will also find some new takes on some of the standards.
KELLY CLARKSON – WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES AROUND
An album that has turned into a full holiday special on NBC. This is not Kelly Clarkson’s first time making an album for the season. This time she recorded 15 tracks including some original songs. You can hear all the different styles of Kelly’s amazing vocals from the classic to the sassy. She also includes a few duets like Chris Stapleton, Ariana Grande, and Brett Eldredge.
ZACH WILLIAMS – I DON’T WANT CHRISTMAS TO END
He has released his first-ever full-length Christmas album. Williams wrote the title track on this ten song album that was produced by Jonathon Smith. The songs are the traditional ones you will recognize but the sound is not. You will love his take on them. He took the songs on the road this year on a Christmas tour to 11 cities celebrating the reason for the season.
Lucas Hoge loves Christmas and says that one of his passions is singing, playing, and writing Christmas music. He released a full length album this year that includes duets with Skip Ewing and Jamie O’Neal. On the record you will find many original songs including one called “December In A Small Town” which was inspired by his hometown of Hubbell, Nebraska.
CARRIE UNDERWOOD – MY GIFT (SPECIAL EDITION)
This is her first ever Holiday album she released last year re-released with three additional tracks. The new songs are “Favorite Time Of Year”, “All Is Well”, and “Let There Be Peace/Something In The Water”. My Gift combines beloved traditional songs and several originals. HBO Max also created a Christmas special with Carrie performing the songs with a full orchestra and choir. It is available to stream now.
BRETT ELDREDGE – MR CHRISTMAS
PISTOL ANNIES – HELL OF A HOLIDAY
On their first Christmas record they share 10 original tunes and three strikingly different covers. It is definitely a different take on the holiday album, they are definitely enjoying it, and so are we.
JOSH ABBOTT BAND – CHRISTMAS WAS
Their first holiday EP, Christmas Was, features their renditions of holiday classics and originals such as “Silent Night.” “Marshmallow World,” “The New Kid in Town,” “Christmas Was,” and “Santa Better Knock.” They said they found the inspiration for the project in Christmas of 2020.
