The First Time I Saw Her

By Lisa Williams Jan 31, 2022 | 12:14 PM

Picture it….1994….Omaha.  I traveled from Kearney to attend a concert.  I had not attended many at this point in my life.

When I got there there were signs posted that as we entered we were agreeing to be filmed for an upcoming special.  That made me extra excited thinking about how big of a production this was gonna be and I had no idea what I was in store for.

The first one to take the stage was John Michael Montgomery.  A heart throb in the 90s who had released several hits already.  I swooned as he sang “I Swear”, “I Love The Way You Love Me”, “Life’s A Dance”, and “Rope The Moon”.  Then he kicked things up a notch with “Be My Baby Tonight”.  I became an even bigger fan than I was when I got there.  Which was pretty hard to believe.

Then we waited as they prepared the stage for her.  Lots of huge props and stage sets.  Then it happened.  I saw her.

REBA!!!!!!!!

She took the stage and performed all of her hits and acted out every music video for each song including costume changes.  Many times you didn’t even see her step away to change.  It was breathtaking.  Then the big moment happened.  She climbed into this box and it lifted her up and it pulled across all of us on the floor so she was inches from each of us.  What?!

I have yet to see anything as well done as that show over all of these years.  It has aired on television and was streamed again in 2020.  I have relived the moments many times on the screen and in my memories.

This week Reba returns to Omaha on Thursday night.  I hope everyone that is going has the same moments of joy and pure bliss that I had by attending her show.  Tickets are still available.  You can visit our concert page at krny.com for more.
