Nebraska Radio legend Dick Chapin passed away late last week Thursday in Lincoln at the age of 99 and was finally laid to rest today.
Chapin started out his broadcasting career in 1953 in sales at radio station KFOR located in Lincoln. He quickly rose through the ranks and became General Manager of KFOR Radio and Television the following year.
He was then elected as the VP of Stuart Investment Company in 1958, which owned KFOR at the time. The same year that November Chapin was then named the President of DKM Broadcasting Midwest, who had bought out the Stuart Investment Company that year.
Chapin then began his own media brokerage firm in 1989 following his retirement. His company Chapin Enterprises, LLC, operated and owned several radio stations, such as KSYZ-FM in Grand Island, before closing doors in 2017.
During his lengthy career in broadcasting he served two terms as the chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters and later served as chairman for the Radio Advertising Bureau. Chapin was eventually inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.
Chapin was recognized and received several awards throughout his career such as the Broadcasting Pioneer Award from the University of Nebraska College of Journalism and the Dean’s Award from the University of Nebraska College of Journalism.
