GRAND ISLAND- According to a release by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Friday, a full investigation into the cause of injuries on Constance Baasch, 68, of Grand Island found no criminal evidence.

On Oct. 15, 2022, Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Grand Island home in reference to an unconscious female who was reported as a fall victim. The victim was identified as Baasch, who lived alone. Baasch’s injuries appeared suspicious in nature. Deputies began investigating the injury as a possible criminal incident. Baasch died from her injuries Feb. 28, 2023.

Throughout the investigation, items from the scene were sent and processed by the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Lab, officers served over a dozen search warrants to examine Baasch’s medical history, financial history, and several electronic media devices. In addition, cell phone network data was collected to analyze the cell phone communications during the time Baasch received her injuries. Several neighbors, Constance Baasch’s family, friends, and other persons of interest were interviewed.

Although the investigation cannot rule it out, there is currently no sufficient evidence to suggest Baasch’s injuries were sustained from a criminal act. Investigators have extinguished all possible avenues that could lead to the cause of these injuries. Should additional information arise, Investigators will continue to follow up on the investigation.
