KEARNEY — After an illustrious career spanning over three decades in the field of education, Jill Clevenger, the esteemed Principal of Kenwood Elementary, has announced her retirement. Mrs. Clevenger’s retirement marks the end of an era, as she leaves behind a legacy of educational excellence and unwavering dedication to her students, staff, and the community.
Jill Clevenger embarked on her journey in education 33 years ago, driven by a passion for nurturing young minds. Throughout her remarkable career, she has had a profound impact on countless lives through her tireless commitment to fostering a nurturing and academically enriching environment for students.
During her remarkable 19-year tenure as Principal at Kenwood Elementary, Mrs. Clevenger consistently demonstrated visionary leadership. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, she was awarded the 2020 National Distinguished Principal of the Year from Nebraska. Her leadership has been instrumental in implementing innovative teaching methods, promoting a culture of inclusivity, and fostering a strong sense of belonging among students and staff. Under her guidance, Kenwood Elementary has consistently achieved academic excellence and earned a reputation as a model school within the district.
“I am immensely grateful for the privilege of serving as the Principal of Kenwood Elementary for the past 19 years,” said Mrs. Clevenger. “It has been an honor to work alongside such dedicated educators and hard working staff that together have been able to contribute to the growth and development of our incredible students as well as the exceptional culture of our school. I will miss this school community dearly.”
Mrs. Clevenger also expressed her appreciation for the Kearney Public Schools system, saying, “It was my dream nineteen years ago to be an administrator in Kearney Public Schools. It was the only school district that I was interested in moving to as the educational system is ‘Top Notch.’ Getting to work alongside many talented, knowledgeable, and dedicated teachers and staff was one of my highlights in this position. I can honestly say that I will dearly miss these amazing people. The community of Kearney has plenty to be thankful for in this exceptional school system and field of educators.”

KPS will begin a search for her replacement immediately.
