KEARNEY – A Kearney native and Kearney Catholic athlete has announced their commitment to the Loper Football program.
Carson Murphy, a multi-sport athlete for Kearney Catholic, announced his intention to join Ryan Held and the Loper Football program with his social media announcement on Tuesday evening. Murphy also had offers from Peru State, Morningside, Hastings College, and Northwestern College.
Murphy was an All-Conference and All-District player in 2022 and 2023 while switching positions throughout his Stars’ Football tenure. The four-year varsity player was a key contributor for the past three seasons, having at least 327 yards in his sophomore, junior, and senior campaigns.
As a junior, Murphy threw for 712 passing yards with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. after switching to receiver for his senior season, Murphy recorded 36 receptions for 450 yards and four scores.
The Star leader was also a major factor defensively, totaling 195 tackles during his varsity tenure. His senior season he had 90 total tackles in ten games, including three interceptions and seven passes defended. Murphy ended his Star career with 11 interceptions, one fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles.
Murphy has also been a key factor for the Stars’ basketball program, playing in seventeen games his sophomore season, twenty-five his junior year, and averaging nine points-per-game as a senior through two games this year.
