Kearney City Council Proclaims Jan. 13 as Mike Morgan Appreciation Day

KEARNEY – The Kearney City Council proclaimed Jan. 13 2024, as Micheal W. Morgan appreciation day.

The proclamation was announced during the councils meeting Tuesday evening. The day is in honor of City Manager Morgan, and the 19 years he has served the Kearney community. He’ll be officially retiring Jan. 13 2024. Morgan’s career in city government spans across 38 years and began his role in Kearney in 2005 as city manager after serving several communities. He has been involved an several major economic projects brought to Kearney which include the Ernst Grundy Tennis Center, the $7.65 million data center facility, the Kearney Public Library expansion and renovation, the creation and completion of Patriot Park, and several more.

Manager Morgan shared that it has been an honor and privilege to serve Kearney.

Also during the meeting, Kearney Police Department officer Alex Peyton was sworn into his new role as Sergeant. The Kearney Police Department Honor Guard led a Presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance. Peyton has been with KPD for over five years, and has served as a motorcycle officer, field training officer, crisis intervention team officer, and mental health first aid instructor.
