LINCOLN – The Nebraska Volleyball was rewarded with middle blocker depth over the weekend, as San Diego transfer Leyla Blackwell announced her intention to transfer to the Big Red via her personal Instagram.
The graduate transfer will have one season of eligibility remaining, and was a former Big Ten recruit playing for the Indiana Hoosiers for one season before transferring to warmer weather.
Blackwell averaged 2.25 kills per set in 2023 and an 0.329 hitting percentage. She also averaged over a block per set last season. She is now the second major transfer into the Husker Volleyball program after the National Championship loss to Texas, joining Minnesota’s Taylor Landfair.
Nebraska has lost several outside hitters from the portal, including Hayden Kubik, Carolina Jurevicius, and recently Ally Batenhorst. The Big Red also saw middle Maggie Mendelsen transfer to conference for Penn State.
