Kearney High Football started off the 2024 season with a 20-0 win over the North Platte Bulldogs on Friday night.
The Bearcat defense started off by forcing North Platte to a three and out, Kearney wouldn’t waste any time scoring, with Griffin Novacek showing the long ball off early, with a 44 yard touchdown pass to Cayden John.
North Platte seemed to have their offense clicking, until a Zach Wulf recovered fumble stalled any momentum. Kearney would march the ball down the field until having their second drive stall out on downs. The Bearcats would add a second touchdown, with Novacek going to Zaire LaGrone-Miller to extend the lead to 14 going into the locker room.
Kearney added one final score in the third quarter, with a Levi Pofahl run making the score 20-0. North Platte would try and attempt to get their ground game started, but would never reach the endzone, nor reach the red zone.
The Bearcats improved to 1-0 on the season. They move to take on the Grand Island Islanders in the annual WOK/WOGI matchup. The Islanders lost to Lincoln Southeast tonight, 35-20.
