RAVENNA — Pickleball courts will be a new amenity added to Ravenna Lake in the future. The Buffalo County Commissioners approved architecture and design services for the courts during the meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Steve Gaasch, Facilities Director for Buffalo County, appeared with an overview of camping at Ravenna Lake for the past several years and the architecture and design agreement.
The Buffalo County Recreation Area – Ravenna Lake has seen a growing number of campers since 2019. Last year, the lake saw 2,000 campers which brought in $50,000 for the county. Gaasch said that this year the numbers are trending slightly higher.
The campground features 41 RV campsites, including primitive sites and those with electrical and water hookups. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill, providing ample fishing opportunities.
A bathhouse with shower facilities was added in 2022. Reservations can be made online through the Buffalo County website
Amenities include a playground, hiking trails, horseshoe pits, and a disc golf course.
Gaasch said the county is looking to add two pickleball courts at the lake site. An agreement with Miller & Associates for architecture design and engineering services for the project was presented to the commissioners.
Gaasch noted he had contacted the City of Kearney, which noted they had utilized Miller & Associates for pickleball court designs within the city.
The commissioners approved the agreement with Miller & Associates.
