GRAND ISLAND – Hall County Commissioner Jane Richardson had not filed for re-election by the Feb. 17 filing deadline for incumbents, and commented Feb. 18 why she isn’t running for another term.
Richardson, 61, who represents District 5, said she has served three four-year terms on the Board. Although Lynn Gardient, 54, has filed for the position, she hopes other people will file for the spot.
She wishes a two-year term was available so that she could serve until completion of the addition to the Hall County Courthouse.
She would like to spend more time with her grandchildren.
“I’m ready to move on to something different,” she said. She said she has enjoyed her work on the Board. She believes it is important for people to volunteer, and they will be better people if they have volunteered.
“Everybody has different talents to bring forward,” Richardson said.
Board Chairman Ron Peterson had announced before the incumbent filing deadline that he would not be seeking another term. Incumbent Butch Hurst has filed for the District 1 position, and incumbent Scott Sorensen has filed for the District 3 position.
Phil Wieck, 37, has filed for the District 7 position that Peterson currently holds. Hurst and Sorensen are currently unopposed.
Republican Aura Molina, 44, has filed for Hall County Assessor/Register of Deeds. She will face incumbent Kristi Wold, 46.
David L. Plond, 64, has filed for Grand Island City Council, Ward 2. Incumbent Maggie Mendoza is not seeking re-election.
