Two more men were injured in separate hunting accidents marking them as third and fourth hunting incidents reported in 2022.

The fourth accident happened Sunday evening in Red Willow County. On Nov. 20 a 20-year-old Indianola man was accidently shot by rifle belonging to a 54-year-old man who was following him and another man up an embankment.  The 20-year-old man was transported to Bryan West Medical Trauma Center in Lincoln for serious injuries.

The third accident happened early Saturday along the Platte River southeast of Yutan. On Nov. 19 a 22-year-old Omaha Man was taken to Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha for non-life threating injuries to both of his hands. The man had been unintentionally shot at close range by another member of his hunting party.

The second reported hunting accident occurred Friday Nov. 18 along the Platte River in Buffalo County. A Hickman man was taken to Good Samaritan in Kearney for non-life-threatening injuries to his arm. The man had been unintentionally shot at close range by another member of his hunting party.

Nebraska Game and Parks Commision reminds hunters to:

  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
  • Always point the muzzle of your firearm in a safe direction.
  • Be sure of your target, what is in front of it, and what is beyond it.
  • Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.
