KEARNEY – The Kearney Football team earned conference hardware this season prior to the start of their postseason this week, as the Bearcats earned the 2023 Heartland Athletic Conference title for their past regular season on the gridiron.
Kearney (8-1, 3-1) went 6-0 against HAC opponents with wins over Lincoln East (41-27, Week 1), at Fremont (41-6, Week 2), Lincoln North Star (35-7, Week 3), at Grand Island (10-7, Week 6), at Lincoln Northeast (55-0, Week 8), and Norfolk (35-7, Week 9).

The Bearcats ended with the top record in the conference, ahead of Lincoln Southeast (7-2), Lincoln East (6-3), Grand Island (5-4), Norfolk (5-4), Lincoln North Star (5-4), and Lincoln Southwest (3-6).
Kearney faces another conference rematch Friday night, hosting longtime rival Grand Island Senior High at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at UNK. Kickoff is set for 7 PM and coverage begins at 6 PM with the KGFW High School Football Preview with live pregame at 6:30 PM.
