HASTINGS — The last week of January and first week of February 2024 were the overall warmest since 1992, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.

The period of Jan. 25 to Feb. 7 at the Grand Island Airport saw an overall average temperature of 39.4 degrees. This was the overall warmest for this period since 1992, it was also the third warmest on record in 129 years of records.

The 14-day period averaged a noteworthy 12.8 degrees above normal, per NWS Hastings.

“Compared to all previous warmest Jan. 25-Feb. 7 warm stretches, this one was driven more by milder overnight lows than daytime highs, including five nights that never dropped below freezing,” NWS Hastings stated.

For the Hastings airport, the same period saw an overall average temperature of 39.7 degrees.

This was also the warmest stretch since 1992 and was the fourth warmest of record in 115 years of records.

The 14-day period averaged 12.4 degrees above normal.

NWS Hastings also noted that there were seven nights in Hastings that never dropped below 32 degrees.
