Kearney High School (KHS) announces the new hire of Ashley Bush as the new cheerleading coach for Kearney High School effective Spring 2024.

Coach Bush possesses a wealth of experience in the realm of cheerleading. She was part of the University of Nebraska cheer squad from 2009-2013 and previously coached or sponsored Kearney High cheerleading from Fall 2019- Spring 2023. She is also a business teacher at Kearney High and has been teaching Marketing 1, Intro to Business, and Hospitality and Tourism since the fall of 2019.

Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education, Coach Bush places a strong emphasis on academics and her coaching philosophy extends beyond the cheers and routines, emphasizing the importance of character development. “I believe that success in the classroom is crucial for the overall development of student-athletes,” said Bush. “The KHS cheerleading team is expected to excel not only on the field but also in their academic pursuits as well as be stand-out role models for the student body. I am dedicated to instilling values of strength, kindness, and leadership in our athletes.”

“I could not be happier that Coach Bush will be coming back full time to lead our Kearney High Cheerleading team,” stated Ryan Hogue, KHS Activities Director and KPS Assistant Principal. “She is the perfect fit for KHS cheer and all of our student-athletes that she will lead. Her experience as a Division I cheerleader and her skills as an accomplished educator gives her the tools to lead an effective, disciplined and successful cheer program for the Bearcats. The Bearcats are in GREAT hands now for the future.”

Coach Bush has a heart for the Kearney community and one of her biggest passions is the annual “Little Bearcat Cheer Clinic,” a cheerleading camp designed for elementary students. This program not only introduces young enthusiasts to the world of cheerleading but also provides a fun environment where youth can take part in performing and cheering on the high school football team during a Friday night rivalry. Through this annual event, Coach Bush aims to create a positive impact on the community by fostering a love for cheerleading and promoting positive character development among the youth.

Coach Bush is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Kearney High School Bearcats and is looking forward to building a strong, spirited, and successful cheerleading program.
