CENTRAL CITY — The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a high visibility traffic safety grant by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Office of Highway Safety, from July 27 through July 31, 2024.

During this time Merrick County Sheriff’s deputies will be patrolling our roadways enforcing traffic laws to ensure that everyone has a safe travel experience going to and from the fair festivities.

In addition, deputies will be onsite at the fairgrounds during the planned activities promoting general traffic safety.

“The Merrick County Fair is an exciting time for our county, a time for our youth to showcase their efforts in different 4-H competitions, as well as a time for adults to socialize with family and friends at the different events,” Sheriff John Westman explained.

“The Sheriff’s Office intends for everyone to have a remarkable fair experience, avoiding all tragedy during this time. We extend a warm welcome to all those who wish to partake in the fair activities but also want to ensure that we are traveling to and from in a safe manner,” Westman continues.
