Lindsey Krause and Bergen Reilly led a dominating effort by No. 2 Nebraska as the Huskers swept Texas A&M Corpus Christi 25-9, 25-20, 25-15 Friday night at the Devaney Center in the Huskers’ home opener as part of the Ameritas Players Challenge.
Krause notched a team-leading 13 kills while hitting a healthy .478. Meanwhile, Reilly had a well rounded performance with 36 set assists, 10 digs, four kills and a career-high-tying five aces. Taylor Landfair, a 2022 1st team All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year who transferred from Minnesota notched her first five kills as a Husker.
Nebraska wasted no time taking control of the match. Reilly began the match serving and the Huskers ran 10 straight points. Reilly tallied three aces in the first 10 rallies alone, while Krause notched two kills and a block in the 10-0 match opening run. Set one ended much how it began, with Reilly running the last five points to clinch the set including two more aces.
The second set was closer. Though the Huskers led throughout, the Islanders stayed within striking distance and even won four of five rallies at one point to cut Nebraska’s lead to 12-11. But a TAMUCC attack error sparked a four-point run and the Huskers cruised to the set 2 win from there.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi briefly led at the start of set three, 4-1. But on the strength of three kills and a block assist by Landfair, Nebraska built an 8-4 lead as the Huskers won seven straight rallies. Krause started the final push. With Nebraska leading 11-8 in the third, a sideout kill by Krause sparked a seven-point run during which she had two kills and two blocks as NU built an 18-8 lead.
The Huskers outhit the Islanders, .427-.181, while outblocking Texas A&M Corpus Christi 7-2. Nebraska landed seven aces to the Islanders two.
