GRAND ISLAND – A 21-year-old Grand Island woman died in the afternoon Sept. 30 in a two-vehicle crash near Grand Island on Interstate 80.
Velia Venegas, 21, of Grand Island was killed in the crash, said Cody Thomas, a spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol.
At approximately 3:40 p.m. Sept. 30, the State Patrol was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near mile marker 319. Preliminary investigation shows that a Saturn sedan was westbound on Interstate 80 when it crossed the median and struck an eastbound semi head-on.
Venegas was driving the Saturn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured. The crash remains under investigation. Eastbound Interstate 80 was closed for approximately four hours.
