GRAND ISLAND — A man was arrested for DUI after he was allegedly involved in a crash that led to the fire that burned down one of the Olson Auction buildings.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers responded to Olson Auction House in reference to a vehicle fire.
On arrival, officers observed one of the Olson Auction buildings to be on fire. Officers were contacted by a witness who reported that a motor vehicle had crashed into the building.
The vehicle caught fire due to the crash and then the building subsequently caught fire.
The building at 716 St. Paul Road was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The fire then spread to 718 St. Paul Road.
All three buildings are valued at $1.5 million. The two buildings that burned are total losses and are valued at $750,000.
Another business, Glee Cupcakes, was located at 716 St. Paul Road.
Per the GIPD, Heriberto Gonzalez Castillo, was identified to be the driver of the vehicle.
Officers conducted a driving under the influence investigation and Castillo showed significant signs of impairment.
“Castillo was transported to St Francis Medical Center for further testing and then transported to the Hall County Jail where he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine during an administrative search of his belongings,” per the GIPD.
Castillo was arrested for driving under the influence – alcohol, first offense, no operator’s license and possession of a controlled substance.
