KEARNEY — The Kearney Whitewater Association and Kearney Paddle Sports are hosting their Cardboard Boat Regatta on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Participants are encouraged to meet at the Kearney Whitewater Park near the former Kearney Cinema 8. Parking is available in the theater parking lot.
New this year is that children and adults alike can show up at 1 p.m. and build their own small, shoebox sized unmanned boat. Materials will be provided for these and they will be sent down the canal at 2 p.m. just before the main event.
“The boats will begin their voyage from the boat ramp on the South side of the creek next to Pizza Ranch and exit at the boat ramp located at Central Avenue,” according to the Kearney Whitewater Association.
The rules are that everyone must wear a helmet, a personal flotation device and water shoes, no flipflops will be allowed. Participants must be 13 or order to ride in or captain a boat, you may have multiple crew members in one boat.
